WHAT:
A live, high-intensity demonstration simulating the rescue of a downed firefighter during a "mayday" emergency. This interactive session shows the real-time coordination, physical demands, and split-second decision-making required in life-threatening situations.
WHEN:
Friday, April 17, 2026
12:15 - 1:45 p.m.
WHERE:
Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel Room Gatlin E1 Orlando, FL
WHO:
Led by Jason Woods, MPS, and Phillip Tammaro, EMT
Hosted by the American Burn Association
WHY IT MATTERS:
This demonstration is part of the American Burn Association’s Annual Meeting (April 14–17), where burn care teams, first responders, and global experts are focused on disaster preparedness and emergency response.
In Florida and across the Southeast, risks from residential fires, hurricanes, and wildfires make coordinated response and training critical. This simulation offers a real-world look at how teams prepare to respond when a firefighter goes down.
“Preparedness in high-risk situations depends on coordination, training, and trust,” said ABA President Dr. Jeffrey Carter. “This session shows what it takes to respond effectively when every second matters.”
VISUALS:
Live firefighter rescue simulation
Hands-on removal techniques
Real-time team coordination in a high-pressure scenario
